What are your Qualifications?
I hold a level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I also hold other qualifications leading up to the diploma. My certificates are on display in my counselling room for verification purposes.
Is Counselling Confidential?
Our work together is confidential, however there are limits to this when I would have to break confidentiality as a legal requirement, this could be, but not limted to, being at risk of harm to yourself or others. Under most circumstances we would talk about this and find a way forward.
Is counselling safe?
As counselling is an unregulated profession, it is important to check who you see has the correct credentials and has been trained in a professional and proficient manner.
I am a member of the National Counselling Society who are registered with the Professional Standards Authority, they assess organisations that register health and social care practitioners who are not regulated by law so that you can choose a practitioner to meet your needs with confidence. I am required to undertake monthly Supervision, rather like counselling but for counsellors to ensure I am working for my clients safely and ethically as well as a minimum of thirty hours continual professional development (CPD) per year. I abide by their ethical framework.
Are you DBS Checked?
Yes, I have a clear and current DBS certificate
Where are you located?
I work from the village of South Cave in East Yorkshire. I work from a bright and comfortable outdoor room. Futher details of where to find me are given at the time of booking your appointment(s).
Can I bring someone with me?
As I work on a one-to-one basis it is unusual to bring someone else to the counselling session as this can compromise the work we do, so the answer is generally 'no'. If you genuinely need someone to escort you for specific reasons e.g. disability then we can discuss this before commencing.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you cannot make your appointment then 48 hours notice is required otherwise the appointment will still stand and remain chargeable. If you cannot make the appoinment because of illness or any exceptional event that is deemed beyond your control then we would look at re-scheduling that appointment to another time.
If you need to cancel, please do so in writing, text or email.
Is your Therapy Room Accessible
Yes! There is level access to the room from the street, accessed through the garden. There are two wide gates to pass through and the room has low threshold double doors. If you need to bring someone to help you to the room that is fine, they are welcome to return after your appointment to assist you again.
There is ample space within the counselling room to sit 2 metres apart. The room is well ventilated and there are face masks available as well as hand gel. Clients are reminded if they display and symptoms that they should not attend their appointment and self-isolate in accordance with Government guidelines. I am unable to offer bathroom facilities or refreshments at this time. The room is cleaned between appointments.
